AMD PBO Tuner

AMD PBO Tuner configures Precision Boost Overdrive for compatible AMD Ryzen processors. The tool separates three states: “Configured in firmware”, “Applied by BoosterX in this session” and “Observed values now”.

What can be configured

Section titled “What can be configured”
  • Curve Optimizer — “All cores” or “Per-core” modes. The editor is built on the real core topology, so a separate value is set for each physical core.
  • Power limits — PPT, TDC, EDC and the temperature limit. The “Apply temporarily” button changes the value only until Windows restarts: BoosterX does not know the firmware value and does not guess it for a reset.
  • BoosterX profiles — “Save profile” and “Load profile”. Loading transfers values only into the editor; nothing is applied to the CPU. A separate button enables “Apply at Windows startup” — only after the profile has been verified.
  • Built-in validation — “Owner validation of new parameters” and the compatibility check filter out obviously unstable values before applying.

Before you start

  • update the BIOS only according to the motherboard manufacturer’s instructions;
  • save the current BIOS parameters and prepare a way to reset CMOS;
  • check cooling at stock settings;
  • close important documents: an unstable value can cause a restart or corruption of unsaved data.
Section titled “Recommended order”
  1. Open Tools → AMD PBO Tuner and wait for the processor to be read.
  2. Start with a conservative change for all cores and apply it temporarily.
  3. Run the built-in validation, then test games, idle, sleep and regular work.
  4. Only after several stable cycles, save the profile and enable applying at startup.

Power and temperature limits

PPT, TDC and EDC limit different power and current modes. A higher limit does not guarantee a performance gain: the result is limited by temperature, voltage, die quality, firmware and the motherboard. The built-in validation does not confirm full stability: Curve Optimizer errors often appear under light load, even if a stress test passes.

How to revert

  1. Disable “Apply at Windows startup”: confirmation deletes the apply task and the saved profile snapshot.
  2. Restart Windows: the temporary PBO values of the current session are reset automatically; if the command result is ambiguous, this is a guaranteed reset.
  3. Delete the profile or do not load it: without applying, it does not affect the CPU.
  4. If the values have already been written to the BIOS, restore the originals from the backup: in the BIOS tool, open “BIOS backups” → “Restore”.
