No sound in Windows

Symptom
Section titled “Symptom”There is no sound in any application: music and video are silent, system sounds do not play. The volume icon in the taskbar is crossed out, and in the sound settings the list of output devices is empty or missing the required devices. Selecting a device and reinstalling the player do not help — they are simply not visible.
Typical causes
Section titled “Typical causes”- Most often, the audio services are disabled — AudioEndpointBuilder and Audiosrv: they are regularly disabled by “optimizers” and Windows acceleration guides, after which sound disappears everywhere at once.
- Less often, the cause is the audio device driver after a Windows update or the audio system itself — speakers, headphones, jack.
Fix in BoosterX
Section titled “Fix in BoosterX”Open BoosterX, in the left menu select the “Fixes” section, in the search enter “Sound everywhere”, open the “Sound everywhere” card and click “Fix”. Then restart Windows. The fix returns the AudioEndpointBuilder and Audiosrv services to their default startup if they were disabled. BoosterX can be downloaded from the official website boosterx.org.
How to verify
Section titled “How to verify”Start music or video and raise the volume. Open “Settings” → “System” → “Sound”: the list of output devices should show real speakers or headphones, and sound should play from the selected device.
Manual alternative without BoosterX
Section titled “Manual alternative without BoosterX”Press Win + R, type services.msc and press Enter. Add the “Service name” column: right-click on the column headers → “Add/remove columns”, find the AudioEndpointBuilder and Audiosrv services. For each: right-click → “Properties” → “Startup type” → “Automatic” → “Apply”. Then right-click on Audiosrv → “Restart”; if the sound does not appear, restart AudioEndpointBuilder as well, then restart Windows.

Section titled “If it did not help”If the services are running but there is still no sound, an audio device driver or hardware is likely. Errors that coincide in time with the sound disappearing are convenient to view in EventX; the general diagnostic procedure is in the “Troubleshooting” section. If it did not help — write to support.
