What changes

Application Impact Telemetry (AIT) is a Windows mechanism that collects information about how applications run on the system. According to the visible BoosterX description, it accumulates data about crashes, hangs and other application performance problems, as well as the frequency and severity of those problems. Microsoft uses it to identify patterns in application behavior across different hardware and software configurations and to prioritize fixes. Disabling it stops this collection and the associated background use of the processor and the internet.

Exceptions and differences

Do not confuse it with the “Application Impact Telemetry Agent task”: BoosterX shows them in different subcategories. This toggle in “Windows Diagnostic and Reports” limits the AIT mechanism itself — crashes, hangs, frequency and severity. The agent task is a separate periodic task that collects application launch times, resource usage and errors. Disabling AIT does not prevent crashes and does not delete events from Windows logs: when diagnosing a crash, you only lose the AIT information being accumulated.

How to verify the result

Launch and close several applications, including one that previously crashed or hung: their launch and operation should not change — only the collection of problem data changes.

How to change and revert

Open “Optimization” → “Privacy” → “Windows Diagnostic and Reports” → “Application Impact Telemetry”, set the toggle to “Enabled”: BoosterX will apply the disabling of the AIT mechanism — collection of data about application crashes and hangs stops. Click “Apply”. If “Instant apply” is enabled, a separate button is not required. To revert, set the toggle to “Disabled” and apply the change again: BoosterX will return Windows to its default state with AIT data collection working.
