What changes

When you sign in to Windows with a Microsoft account, the system transfers settings between all devices of that account. The sync includes visible groups of settings: personalization (theme and wallpaper), passwords, language settings, accessibility settings, favorites and browser settings, as well as other Windows and app settings.

After disabling, the current PC stops sending its changes and receiving others’. On a second device with the same account, the settings already transferred remain, but new changes from the disabled PC no longer appear. OneDrive is managed separately — this setting does not sync files.

Exceptions and differences

The setting is not hidden in either Windows 10 or Windows 11. Microsoft has discontinued the development of roaming personalization settings (wallpaper, theme, colors) between devices, so on new builds this part may not sync even with the setting enabled. How to verify the result

Change the wallpaper or theme on the PC with the setting disabled, then wait a few minutes on the second device with the same account — the change will not appear.

How to change and revert

Open Optimization → Customization → Windows features → Microsoft account settings sync and toggle the switch to “Enabled”: BoosterX will apply the disabling of settings sync. Click “Apply” at the bottom of the page; if “Instant apply” is enabled, a separate button is not required. To revert, toggle the switch to “Disabled”: BoosterX will return Windows to its default state — the transfer of supported settings will resume.
