What changes

This group is responsible for scheduled automatic cleanup. According to the visible BoosterX description, these are “tasks related to auto-cleanup”, and the app advises disabling them if you use its own cleanup. It affects temporary files of applications and the system, servicing of Windows update components (removal of outdated versions), the cache and leftovers of a system update. After disabling, cleanup is performed manually only.

Exceptions and differences

  • Storage Sense (“Storage Sense”) is not part of the group — it is enabled and configured separately in “Settings” → “System” → “Storage”.
  • Trade-off: together with manual cleanup in BoosterX, the automatic tasks duplicate the work, but once disabled you have to monitor free space yourself.
  • Tasks running during every game is not confirmed — BoosterX describes this as a risk of frame drops, not as constant behavior. An FPS gain is not guaranteed.
  • The setting is available in both Windows 10 and Windows 11 — there are no version restrictions in BoosterX.

How to verify the result

After disabling, free space changes only through your actions: run manual cleanup in BoosterX or the built-in Windows cleanup and make sure it still finds and deletes temporary files. Automatic background cleanups are no longer performed.

How to change and revert

Open “Optimization” → “Tasks” → “System maintenance” → “Cleanup tasks” and set the toggle to “Enabled”: BoosterX will disable the automatic cleanup tasks. Click “Apply” at the bottom of the page; if “Instant apply” is enabled, a separate button is not required. To revert, set the toggle to “Disabled” and apply the change again: BoosterX will restore the default Windows state with the cleanup tasks enabled.

  • Research on scheduled diagnostics — a related example of selectively disabling a single maintenance branch: the block does not remove the registration of the system task and does not stop all of Windows diagnostics. No dedicated measurement was performed for cleanup tasks.
  • Microsoft: Clean up the WinSxS folder — Windows itself automatically removes outdated versions of update components (the StartComponentCleanup task), and Disk Cleanup removes temporary files, verified 2026-09-20.
