The setting is shown in BoosterX only when Visual Studio is installed. Disabling does not affect building and debugging projects.

What changes

Visual Studio takes part in the Customer Experience Improvement Program (VSCEIP), which is enabled by default. According to Microsoft’s public documentation, the environment collects information about errors, hardware configuration and feature usage: system logs of crashes, hangs and high resource consumption, call stacks and exception data. BoosterX disables participation in the program for the current user; the mandatory diagnostic data that the environment needs for security and updates continues to be collected. The setting appears in BoosterX only when Visual Studio is installed.

Exceptions and differences

Disabling does not affect compilation and debugging of projects. Manual “Report a problem” reports are sent separately and work independently. According to BoosterX’s visible description, the setting applies to the current user and may be reset by Visual Studio updates — check it after major updates. The setting does not touch the telemetry of other tools, for example VS Code.

How to verify the result

Launch Visual Studio and open Help → Privacy → Privacy Settings: in the Customer Experience Improvement Program dialog, the opt-out option must be selected.

How to change and revert

Open “Optimization” → “Privacy” → “Dev tools and CLI” → “Visual Studio telemetry” and switch the toggle to “Enabled”: BoosterX will apply the opt-out from the Visual Studio Customer Experience Improvement Program. Click “Apply”. If “Instant apply” is enabled, a separate button is not required. To revert, switch the toggle to “Disabled” and apply the change again: BoosterX will return Windows to its default state with participation in the program enabled.
