On first launch, BoosterX analyzes the system. Then you choose a configuration method, review the proposed changes and their possible consequences.

The analysis itself does not change Windows settings. The program will apply changes when you select settings and confirm the application.

  1. Download BoosterX from the official website.
  2. Save your open work. During application, BoosterX restarts network adapters, and for some changes it may restart File Explorer.
  3. Leave enabled the features you use: for example, Bluetooth, printing or Xbox components. A higher optimization level is not worth losing the features you need.

On the main page, click Start optimization. BoosterX will collect data about the current configuration and show several reference points:

  • the estimated CPU or GPU bottleneck;
  • an estimate of potential improvement;
  • the current optimization level;
  • the privacy level;
  • resilience to future Windows background activity.

These indicators can guide you when choosing settings. Performance evaluation requires a game benchmark and latency measurement: the estimate of potential improvement in BoosterX does not guarantee a specific FPS gain.

After the analysis, choose the questionnaire or the expert menu.

For the first launch, we recommend the questionnaire. BoosterX will ask whether you use Bluetooth, a printer, Xbox components and Game Bar, and whether you are ready to change visual effects and Alt+Tab behavior. The answers to these questions cannot be safely determined from a computer’s configuration alone.

Based on the answers, the program assembles a set of settings. On computers with NVIDIA, the questionnaire may also include a separate question about video driver settings.

In the expert menu, you review categories and manually select settings. Applying all available settings is not mandatory.

Review the selected set before applying, including if it was assembled by the questionnaire.

Before applying, BoosterX shows features that may change or stop working as usual.

Warnings are arranged by importance:

  • red ones require special attention;
  • yellow ones indicate a noticeable trade-off;
  • blue ones relate to less sensitive changes.

If you need the specified feature, exclude the change associated with it. After that, BoosterX will recalculate the set before applying.

On the first application, BoosterX creates its own recovery profile of the current supported settings. A Windows restore point is created when system protection is enabled. You can check it in advance like this: press Win + R, type sysdm.cpl and open the “System Protection” tab — protection must be enabled for the system drive.

Start small: apply 2–3 settings, check the system and continue. What can and cannot be undone is described in recovery boundaries.

Then BoosterX applies the confirmed settings. Due to network adapters restarting, the network may briefly disconnect. If the selected changes require it, the program will also restart File Explorer.

After completion, restart Windows if the program asks you to or if the selected settings only take effect after a system restart.

After applying, check the features you need: network, Bluetooth, printing, sound, signing in to accounts and gaming components. Then compare performance under identical conditions. A single random game launch is not enough for such a comparison.

If the result does not suit you, open the BoosterX backups section and select the profile created before optimization. The profile covers the changes supported by the program; for other system changes, a Windows restore point or a separate manual rollback may be required.

  • There is no universal set of settings for all computers.
  • A higher optimization level does not always make a computer more convenient to use.
  • BoosterX analysis provides reference points rather than guaranteeing FPS, latency or a specific amount of freed memory.
  • The final effect depends on the Windows version, hardware, drivers, installed programs and the selected changes.
