What changes
Section titled “What changes”This group is responsible for background drive maintenance. According to the visible description, BoosterX tasks “run bad sector checks, automatic defragmentation and more.” The visible scenarios: scheduled drive optimization — for an HDD this is defragmentation, for an SSD it is a different maintenance operation, so the Windows schedule is not the same as manual SSD defragmentation — and background data integrity checks on the drives.
Exceptions and differences
Section titled “Exceptions and differences”- Disabling does not delete data and does not disable SMART or manual checks; Windows itself determines the type of operations for a specific drive.
- After disabling, check the condition of the drives, the file system, backups and free space yourself.
- By default, Windows optimizes drives on a schedule; changing the schedule in the “Optimize Drives” settings and disabling the BoosterX tasks are different levels of control.
- The setting is available in both Windows 10 and Windows 11 — there are no version restrictions in BoosterX.
How to verify the result
Section titled “How to verify the result”Open the “Defragment and Optimize Drives” window (search for the word “optimize”): the last optimization date for the drives stops updating. The manual “Optimize” button continues to work.
How to change and revert
Section titled “How to change and revert”Open “Optimization” → “Tasks” → “System maintenance” → “HDD-related tasks” and move the toggle to the “Off” position: BoosterX will apply the default Windows state with drive maintenance enabled. Click “Apply” at the bottom of the page; if “Instant apply” is enabled, a separate button is not required. To disable the tasks, the “On” position is used: BoosterX will stop scheduled optimization and background data integrity checks; to revert — “Off” again.
