High performance

Recommendation
SituationalFor a desktop gaming PC on AC power and older systems; enable it when measurements reveal drops due to core parking or slow exit from power saving.
Keep it for diagnostics, even if the old BoosterX description advised deleting it.
- Main effect
- Base clock lock
- Reboot
- Not required
What changes
Section titled “What changes”The setting imports the stock “High performance” plan into the Windows list of plans. The key difference from “Balanced” is that the minimum processor state is locked at 100 %: the processor does not drop below its base clock even when idle. Core parking is disabled, turbo mode runs constantly, PCIe power saving on AC power is disabled; selective USB suspension and display dimming remain enabled — partial heat control.
The price is higher idle power draw and temperature, and the cooler spins more often. The practical point: a desktop gaming PC on AC power, older systems (roughly up to Intel 6th generation and Ryzen 1000), or “Balanced” causing stutters due to core parking. This is a “simplified” version of “Ultimate performance” with a lower risk of overheating.
Exceptions and differences
Section titled “Exceptions and differences”- The plan is not suitable for a laptop as a permanent mode: case heating and battery drain increase noticeably.
- On modern processors, the FPS gain over “Balanced” usually stays within the margin of error; DocsX did not measure an FPS gain — check frame time and 1% low yourself.
- Windows 10 and Windows 11 support the plan equally; in Windows 11 the list of plans is in the “Power options” window of Control Panel.
How to verify the result
Section titled “How to verify the result”In the “Power options” window of Control Panel, the plan has appeared and is marked active. Then compare it with “Balanced” under identical cooling: at idle the processor frequency stays at or above the base clock (Task Manager or HWiNFO), and the temperature and fan speed are higher. Evaluate the gaming effect by 1% low, not average FPS.
How to change and revert
Section titled “How to change and revert”Open “Optimization” → “Power options” → “Power plans for import” → “High performance” and apply the setting. Click “Apply” at the bottom of the page; if “Instant apply” is enabled, the change is made immediately, no reboot is needed. Then select this plan in the “Power options” window of Control Panel if it did not become active on its own.
To revert, select the previous plan in the same window — the performance plan will remain in the list.
Confirmation
Section titled “Confirmation”- Microsoft: Powercfg command-line options — power plans, the list and the active plan, verified 2026-09-19.
- Compare with “Balanced” and “Ultimate performance”.
