"End task" in the taskbar menu

The command does not offer to save documents — it terminates the process immediately.

What changes

An “End task” command appears in the context menu of a running application’s taskbar icon. It terminates the process immediately — like “End task” in Task Manager, but with two clicks, without invoking Task Manager itself and searching for the application in the process list. For a hung game, this is the shortest way to regain control of the system.

Exceptions and differences

Applicability is Windows 11 only: in Windows 10 the setting is hidden, and there is no such command in the taskbar menu. Windows 11 can also enable the same command natively in the Settings section “System → For developers”. Do not terminate system processes, installers and applications with unsaved documents this way — data will be lost.

How to verify the result

Launch an application without important unsaved data, right-click its taskbar icon — the menu should contain the “End task” command. Select it: the application should close immediately, without asking about saving.

How to change and revert

In BoosterX, open “Optimization” → “Customization” → “Windows Shell” → “‘End task’ in the taskbar menu” and turn on the toggle. Click “Apply” at the bottom of the page; with “Instant apply” enabled, the change is applied immediately. To revert, turn off the setting and click “Apply” — the command will disappear from the icon menus.
