Recommendation

Situational

Disable it if you do not want to send optional usage data, — this is how BoosterX itself formulates the recommendation.

Opting out does not disable all Windows diagnostics: diagnostic data levels are configured separately.

This is the system policy for opting out of the Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP/SQM). According to the visible description, a participating computer automatically sends data about how Windows and other Microsoft software are used: which features are used most often, how long certain tasks take and what errors you encounter. The data is described as anonymous, without personal information. Opting out stops the program, but not all telemetry: Windows diagnostic data levels are managed separately — see “Telemetry in the data collection policy”.

The difference from the neighboring settings: “CEIP tasks” disable specific scheduled tasks, “CEIP data update” — one task for transmitting usage information, while CEIP/SQM is the general policy for participating in the program, the “master switch”. There is no direct visible switch for the program in Windows “Settings”: modern diagnostics are described by diagnostic data levels. Windows 10 and Windows 11 are supported.

There is no built-in indicator in Windows: the opt-out state is visible from the switch in BoosterX. An indirect check is in “Task Scheduler”: Customer Experience Improvement Program tasks do not run if they are also disabled (see “CEIP tasks”).

Open “Optimization” → “Privacy” → “Windows diagnostics and reports” → “CEIP/SQM”, set the switch to “Enabled”: BoosterX will apply the policy for opting out of the Customer Experience Improvement Program. Click “Apply”. If “Instant apply” is enabled, a separate button is not required. To revert, set the switch to “Disabled” and apply the change again: BoosterX will return Windows to its default state with normal participation in the program.

  • The data composition is the visible description of the setting in BoosterX, verified 2026-09-19.
  • Privacy policy study: each part of telemetry must be evaluated separately.
  • Related settings: “CEIP tasks”, “CEIP data update”.
  • The data composition and the operation of the Customer Experience Improvement Program are described according to the visible description in BoosterX; no public Microsoft documentation about the CEIP/SQM program was found as of the verification date, so the statement remains without an external source.
