GameReadyX
On this page
GameReadyX checks the Windows configuration before launching games. The results are collected on a single screen with an overall status. Actions are suggested only for items that require attention.
Start with this check before trying tweaks: GameReadyX looks for missing dependencies, failed system settings, and known compatibility issues. It does not measure performance and does not promise FPS gains.
What GameReadyX checks
Section titled “What GameReadyX checks”| Section | What it shows | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Visual C++ | Presence and state of packages for 32-bit and 64-bit applications | Install the appropriate official Microsoft packages |
| DirectX components | Presence of additional libraries from the legacy DirectX SDK still required by some games | Install the official DirectX End-User Runtime |
| Page file | Current mode, file presence, placement drives, and available space | Review the recommendation and apply the suggested configuration if needed |
| Monitors | Current and available resolution, as well as the refresh rate of each display | Switch to the maximum detected mode with mandatory confirmation |
| Windows states | Disabled system mechanisms and known graphics configuration issues | Restore the default state or apply a documented workaround if there is enough data for it |
The refresh button runs the checks again. This is useful after installing components, changing display settings, updating a driver, or restarting Windows.
Visual C++ and DirectX
Section titled “Visual C++ and DirectX”Many games ship with the required dependencies. However, their installation may have been skipped, and the components themselves may have become corrupted or been removed. GameReadyX separately checks Microsoft Visual C++ packages for applications of different bitness and displays the versions found.
The DirectX section checks for additional libraries from the legacy DirectX SDK. According to Microsoft documentation, the DirectX End-User Runtime adds side-by-side D3DX, XAudio 2.7, XInput 1.3, and XACT components while preserving the operating system’s built-in DirectX Runtime. A game may require one of these libraries even when DirectX 12 is present. Therefore, checking a single DirectX version in Windows is not sufficient.
GameReadyX downloads installers from official Microsoft URLs. If installation fails, do not disable your antivirus and do not download individual DLLs from third-party sites. First update Windows, restart the computer, and run the check again.
Page file
Section titled “Page file”The page file extends the system commit limit and can be used to create dumps during crashes. Its necessity and size depend on the workload, RAM capacity, and application requirements. Simply having a large amount of memory does not prove that the page file can be safely disabled.
GameReadyX shows:
- whether Windows manages the size or a manual configuration is used;
- whether the page file actually exists;
- which drives it is located on;
- whether those drives have enough free space;
- which option is recommended for the detected storage configuration.
The GameReadyX recommendation is a safe starting point for configuration. The appropriate size depends on the workload. For servers, professional applications, large projects, and special crash dump requirements, follow the product’s requirements and measure peak commit charge.
Monitor resolution and refresh rate
Section titled “Monitor resolution and refresh rate”GameReadyX compares the active mode of each monitor with the modes Windows reports as available. If a higher resolution or refresh rate is found, the section offers to switch.
After the change, confirm that the image displays correctly. Without confirmation, the previous mode will be restored automatically so as not to keep a setting where the screen is unusable or unstable.
The maximum refresh rate is not always suitable. On a laptop, it may increase power consumption. Limitations also depend on the combination of resolution, HDR, color depth, and connection interface. Consider them together with the refresh rate.
Windows and MPO checks
Section titled “Windows and MPO checks”Some checks look for disabled Windows mechanisms that manage background activity. Disabling these components does not add resources by itself and may prevent Windows from reducing the impact of background work.
Multi-Plane Overlay diagnostics take into account the available information about Windows, the GPU, and the driver. The baseline recommendation is to leave MPO in the Windows Default state. Disabling is suggested only as a workaround for a confirmed problematic configuration. If there is not enough data or a non-standard state is detected, GameReadyX should not guess the solution.
Before disabling MPO, first update the graphics driver and Windows, then run the check again. The purpose of the technology, known issues, and the limits of the recommendation are covered in detail in the MPO research.
How to use
Section titled “How to use”- Open GameReadyX and wait for all checks to complete.
- Start with the items marked as requiring attention.
- Read the reason and apply only one change at a time.
- Confirm the new monitor mode if the image displays correctly.
- Restart Windows when required by an installed component or a recommendation.
- Click the refresh button and verify that the state has been recalculated.
Your manual configuration may differ from the general recommendation. If you chose it deliberately, verify the result with measurements and make sure you can revert the settings. There is no need to change them just to get a green status.
What the result means
Section titled “What the result means”- All good: among the current set of checks, no states were found for which GameReadyX suggests an action.
- Attention required: at least one check detected a missing component, a mode mismatch, or a known configuration issue.
- Recommendation unavailable: there is not enough data for a safe automatic solution.
With a green status, driver errors, hardware issues, or low performance in specific games are still possible. With a yellow status, the detected setting may not manifest itself yet. GameReadyX helps narrow down the search; the result in a specific game must be verified with a reproducible test.
Sources and limitations
Section titled “Sources and limitations”- Microsoft: latest Visual C++ Redistributable packages
- Microsoft: DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)
- Microsoft: page file purpose and commit limit
- Microsoft: changing the monitor refresh rate
- Microsoft: Quality of Service and power throttling
