Disabling reduces detection of malicious scripts and has no confirmed gaming benefit. The absence of third-party antivirus is not a sufficient reason: the built-in Microsoft Defender also uses AMSI.

What changes
Section titled “What changes”AMSI (Antimalware Scan Interface) is a Windows interface through which applications such as PowerShell and other supported programs submit executable code or data to the installed protection solution for real-time scanning. This helps detect and block malicious scripts before they run. The BoosterX setting disables this scanning; the value affects the WMI branch — details in the table below.

When disabled, BoosterX writes REG_DWORD 0; reverting deletes the value and restores the default Windows behavior. The value is stored in the Wbem branch, which belongs to WMI — the Windows management infrastructure — and controls AMSI in the components related to it.
Exceptions and differences
Section titled “Exceptions and differences”In BoosterX, the setting is linked to Windows Defender (Antivirus): according to the app’s visible description, disabling Defender also changes AMSI behavior. BoosterX allows disabling it if there is no antivirus on the system, and describes the visible consequence — in that case, certain Windows processes cyclically search for an installed protection solution. Our recommendation matches the research: disabling degrades detection of malicious scripts, and the built-in Defender also uses AMSI.
How to verify the result
Section titled “How to verify the result”Check the toggle position in BoosterX: it corresponds to the applied choice. To verify the revert, make sure the AmsiEnable value in the branch from the table is deleted — the default state for enabled scanning.
How to change and revert
Section titled “How to change and revert”In BoosterX, open “Optimization” → “Security” → “Basic Windows protection” → “AMSI” and move the toggle to the “Off” position: BoosterX will apply the default Windows state with AMSI scanning enabled. Click “Apply” at the bottom of the page; with “Instant apply” enabled, the change is applied immediately. To disable scanning, use the “On” position: BoosterX will disable AMSI; reverting to the default state — “Off” again.
