.pow files are exported Windows power plans. This setting associates the .pow extension with BoosterX: double-clicking a file opens it like a regular document and imports the plan into the Windows power plan list, without manually invoking commands. The association does not add any permanent background processes — the handler runs only at the moment the file is opened.

An imported plan does not always become active automatically: after importing, check the plan list and, if needed, select the new plan in the “Power options” window of Control Panel. This is convenient for sharing proven plans between computers and for overclocking sessions.

  • Windows 10 and Windows 11 support .pow in the same way; the file contains power plan settings, but not programs.
  • The association can be taken over by another program claiming rights to .pow — in that case, double-clicking will again open the app selection prompt.
  • Other people’s .pow from the internet are a source of someone else’s power settings: trust only your own exports and authors you know.

Double-click a .pow file obtained from a trusted source. The plan from the file will appear in the Windows power plan list in the “Power options” window of Control Panel — that is the result of the import. Then, if desired, select it as active in the same window.

Open “Optimization” → “Power options” → “Ability to import .pow files” and turn on the toggle. Click “Apply” at the bottom of the page; if “Instant apply” is enabled, the change takes effect immediately, no reboot is needed.

To revert, turn the setting off and apply the change: double-clicking a .pow will again prompt you to choose a program to open it.
