In Settings → System → Display → Night light the toggle button is greyed out: it cannot be clicked, and the schedule and “Night light color temperature” are unavailable. The feature does not turn on either manually or on a schedule.

The component responsible for Night light is damaged — usually after a major Windows update, the application of tweaks and “optimizers”, or a failure that interrupted an update. Sometimes the cause is a video adapter driver that lost the required feature after an update.

  1. Open BoosterX → the “Fixes” section (in the left menu).
  2. In the search, type “Night light”.
  3. Open the card “Night light 1 (grey toggle button)” and click “Fix”.
  4. Restart Windows — without a restart the button may remain grey.

The fix eliminates the cause that blocks the button and returns it to a working state. BoosterX can be downloaded from the official website boosterx.org.

Open Settings → System → Display → Night light again: the button should be clickable. Turn it on — the screen will smoothly acquire a warm tint (immediately or at the set time, if a schedule is configured). After checking, turn Night light back off.

Install all updates: Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates, then restart. If the button remains grey, update the video adapter driver: Device Manager → Display adapters → right-click the adapter → “Update driver”. It is more reliable to install a fresh driver from the video card manufacturer’s website.

If the button started working but Night light itself still does not turn on, try the second card in the same section — “Night light 2 (the button works, but the feature itself does not)”: it resets the saved state and Night light parameters to their default values. Further diagnostics using the Windows event log are performed by EventX; if the problem persists, write to support.
