Disable automatic Store updates only if you are ready to check them manually on a regular basis. Otherwise, leave the default mode.

The setting does not block Microsoft Store from launching and does not prevent manual installation of app updates.

In short

Microsoft documents a system policy that disables automatic downloading of Store app updates. When the policy is not configured, automatic mode is again controlled by Microsoft Store and the store’s user settings.

The Microsoft Store catalog, app installation and manual update checks remain available.

What changes

  • Store should not automatically download and install app updates.
  • The Microsoft Store app itself continues to launch.
  • Updates can be checked for and installed manually.
  • The user must keep track of bug and vulnerability fixes in Store apps on their own.

The size and frequency of updates depend on the installed apps, so a fixed traffic saving is not confirmed. This setting does not reduce the number of telemetry processes.

How to choose

  • To choose download times yourself, disable automatic mode and update apps manually on a regular basis.
  • If you do not want to keep track of updates, leave automatic mode enabled.
  • Do not postpone manual checks for long if the PC has important components from Store.

How to verify the result

Open Microsoft Store and perform a manual update check. The store should remain available and allow you to install the versions it finds at your request.

How to change and revert

In BoosterX, open “Optimization” → “Basic” → “Updates and delivery” → “Automatic update of store apps” and set the toggle to “On”: BoosterX will apply the disabling of automatic update downloads. Click “Apply” at the bottom of the page. If “Instant apply” is enabled, a separate button is not required.

To revert, set the same toggle to “Off” and click “Apply”: BoosterX will restore the default mode, and Microsoft Store will control automatic updates again.

Sources and verification boundaries

The official policy applies to Windows 11 21H2 and newer. Its purpose and system mapping are confirmed, but the actual download cycle of each Microsoft Store client version on Windows 11 25H2 was not measured separately.
