What changes

“News and Interests” is a card on the Windows 10 taskbar: the current weather and news headlines. Hovering the cursor expands the news feed and other content.

The BoosterX setting disables this feature. The weather and news card disappears from the taskbar, and hovering no longer expands the feed. According to the BoosterX description, along with the feature the taskbar stops loading the web component for displaying content.

Exceptions and differences

The setting applies only to Windows 10 — in Windows 11 it is hidden. The role of the news block in Windows 11 is performed by “Widgets”, which are disabled by a separate setting. BoosterX also notes that “News and Interests” is unavailable in a number of countries. The related web layer of search is described in “WebView2 for Search”.

How to verify the result

Hover the cursor over the taskbar in the clock area: the weather card is gone, and the news feed does not expand.

How to change and revert

Open Optimization → Customization → Search and assistants → News and Interests and set the toggle to “Enabled”: BoosterX will apply the disabling of “News and Interests”. Click “Apply” at the bottom of the page; if “Instant apply” is enabled, a separate button is not required. To revert, set the toggle to “Disabled”: BoosterX will return Windows to its default state — the news and interests card comes back.
