What changes

Windows system menus do not expand instantly: after the pointer hovers, the system holds a pause so that submenus do not pop up on an accidental touch of a neighboring item. The setting defines the duration of this pause.

In BoosterX the value is chosen from ready-made options: “400 ms (default)”, “20 ms” and “0 ms”. A lower value speeds up submenu expansion on hover — File Explorer and classic menus react noticeably faster. The execution speed of the commands inside the menu itself does not change.

Exceptions and differences

The setting is not hidden in either Windows 10 or Windows 11. According to the BoosterX description, in Windows 11 it affects classic menus — the right click with Shift or the “Show more options” item — and does not affect the new File Explorer context menu. The change takes effect after restarting File Explorer or signing in again. The classic menu in Windows 11 is restored by the setting “Context menu as in Windows 10”.

How to verify the result

In File Explorer, hover the pointer over an item with a submenu, for example “New”: the submenu expands faster than the selected delay — immediately or almost immediately.

How to change and revert

Open Optimization → Customization → Windows Shell → Context menu appearance delay and select the desired value. Click “Apply” at the bottom of the page; if “Instant apply” is enabled, a separate button is not required. To revert, select the “400 ms (default)” option.
